One of the most exciting times of the year – Christmas is here. It’s an amazing time to get together with friends and family to make that bond stronger.

It’s also the right time to introduce your kids to some fun Christmas activities! While they may already be acquainted with Secret Santa and Christmas carols at school, you can make the holidays more fun by introducing them to some innovative Christmas games for kids.

Worry not, we’ve curated some fun Christmas games for kids that they will remember till next Christmas comes along:

1. DIY Christmas Stockings

Kids are innately crafty. Use their skills and customize your Christmas decors. Create a personalized Christmas stocking this season for Santa Clause to stuff in some goodies.

Things you will need:

  • Good quality wool felt cloth
  • Stapler or craft glue
  • Stickers, buttons or glitters
  • Pen
  • Scissors

What to do: Keep two pieces of felt cloth one over the other. Draw the shape of the stockings using a pen and cut out the pattern. Now, keep the top portion open and glue or staple the rest of the cutout. Use the remaining felt to form a loop and glue the same on the top corner of the sock. Get your kids to showcase their creativity by using glitters and decorations of their choice to add the finishing touches.

2. Christmas Cookie Decoration

Kids are always excited about their Christmas goodies. Make it even more interesting by letting them decorate their cookies.

Things you will need:

  • Cookies (Baked or store-bought)
  • Icing or frosting
  • Cake decoration items of your choice
  • Baking sheet
  • Wooden ice cream sticks

What to do: Give your kids the frosting cone filled with the icing. Place the cookie on the baking sheet. Let them decorate the cookie as they wish. Alternatively, you can also use the wooden ice cream sticks. Add some extra sprinkles or nuts for a Christmasy touch.

3. Candy Cane Game

Its Christmas time and there’s candy cane everywhere. Candy canes are popularly used for decorating the Christmas tree. There are lots of games that can be played with these Christmas treats. Here is one that’s hugely popular among kids

Things you will need:

  • Candy cane; a lot of them
  • Baskets

What to do: This is a great game when played in groups. Make the kids sit with a bunch of candy canes and basket next to it. Give each of them a candy cane to put in their mouths. Instruct them to keep the hook end down. The task is to use the candy cane hook to pick up the other candy canes and move it to the basket. The player with the most candy canes in the basket wins.

4. Pin the Red Nose on Rudolph

Pin the red nose on Rudolph is a fun version of the good old “Pin the tail on the donkey”, “fin on the shark” or “hat on Dora”.

Things you will need:

  • A big cut-out of Rudolf the Reindeer
  • Lots of Red noses (cut-outs or nose-shaped things)
  • Drawing pins
  • A blindfold

This is again a fun game to be played in groups. Place the large Rudolph cut out on the wall. Blindfold the kids one by one. Now handover the red nose to them and ask them to pin it to Rudolph’s face. The one who pins to right position will be declared the winner.

5. Holiday Drawings

A fun way to keep those tiny tots busy all day. Or maybe for a while! Drawing activities give a lot of visual-motor practice to them. This holiday season encourage them to use winter, Santa and Christmassy hints in their usual drawings.

Things you will need:

  • Printable drawing templates with poems(For e.g. Christmas tree, gingerbread, snowman)
  • Pencils or crayons

What to do: Print out the template with drawing instructions. Read each step slowly. Help your child at each step or you could also make a drawing and share your design with them for inspiration.
